The batch dialog in Capture NX 1.1 has been changed to offer an option to "Use Original Settings". This will revert your NEFs to their as-shot settings. Also notice the checkbox next to "Apply Settings". Unlike version 1.0.1, you can now perform a batch from this dialog box without being forced to apply a preset settings file.
The Levels & Curves, LCH and Histogram windows are all enlargeable in NX 1.1. Click the icon in the upper right to toggle between small and large views. In addition, you can now use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move selected anchor points on curves. I find that very useful, and an example of the Nikon software team listening to suggestions-- myself and others requested these features during tests of NX 1.0, and Nikon has delivered.
Capture NX 1.1 is a free update to Capture NX 1.0.1. I've spent some time with it, and here is a list of some of the new features.
- Support for Windows Vista
- Native Support for Intel-based Macs (Universal Binary)
- Faster batch processing
- Batch dialog allows save without applying a settings preset
- Batch dialog includes option to "revert to as-shot" settings
- Keyboard shortcuts for file browser navigation
- Arrow keys will move anchor points on curves
- Enlarged Histogram windows
- Enlarged Curves/LCH windows
- Better compatibility with Wacom tablets
- Keyboard shortcuts for brush opacity
- Fixed IPTC issue where keywords were deleted upon save
- Fixed behavior where the default save-to folder was always "Pictures"
- Fixed behavior (at least on Mac version) where previously used JPEG compression settings were not remembered
- Clicking a highlighted Edit Step will open or collapse it (you don't need to click the tiny arrow any more)
- "Open With" retains the original file name when sending a NEF to an external editor
- Watch points can be hidden
People have emailed me and posted in various photo forums if my eBook will be updated to reflect the changes in NX v1.1. At this time, I'm planning a short, free supplement to address some of the 1.1 features, but other than the batch dialog, nothing else has really changed in terms of workflow, editing, or techniques in this update to NX.
Therefore, I'm happy to report that The Photographer's Guide to Capture NX is fully compatible with Capture NX 1.1.
If you are new to Capture NX, there is no better way to learn its powerful features than with my Capture NX eBook.
