The HDR Efex Pro Tutorial from Jason Odell & Tony Sweet

Nik Software's HDR Efex Pro is the newest and most powerful HDR tone-mapping program we've used. I've teamed up with master photographer Tony Sweet to write The Photographer's Guide to HDR Efex Pro, the authoritative "missing" manual to this powerful HDR tone-mapping software tool. This downloadable eBook (PDF) will show you exactly how to produce fine-art HDR images quickly and easily with HDR Efex Pro. This is not only a technical manual (we explain every control and slider) but also a guide to producing fine-art HDR images.

The Photographer's Guide to HDR Efex Pro covers:

  • Field techniques for HDR imaging
  • How to navigate the HDR Efex Pro interface
  • How to use HDR Efex Pro as a stand-alone application
  • HDR Methods: what they are and how to choose one
  • Global Adjustments
  • Selective Adjustments with Control Points
  • Natural HDR Recipes for indoor and outdoor scenes
  • Artistic HDR Recipes for indoor and outdoor scenes
  • Black & White HDR
  • Single-image tone-mapping
  • Panoramic HDR
  • 14 Custom HDR Presets for HDR Efex Pro
  • iPad compatible file (requires download to a Mac or PC first)

Q: Why should I purchase an eBook?  Do you offer a print (hardcopy) version?

A: The eBook format is very flexible. It allows you to not only view the book on your computer, but also to print a copy for personal use. You can print the entire Guide, or just the pages you want to reference.  Because the Guide is in eBook format, we can deliver it to you electronically in less than an hour, without any fees for shipping.  In addition, the eBook format is interactive; you can click Table of Contents or Index entries and be taken to the the exact page in the book where that reference is found.  We've also embedded URLs to resource websites in the eBook; you can't do that in a printed book.

Q: What software is required to view your eBooks?

A: You'll need a ZIP utility to extract the downloaded files, and the eBook PDF file is viewable on most PDF readers, although Adobe Reader 7.0 or later is preferred for maximum functionality. Please note that your computer may default to other PDF viewer software; if you get an error please check to see that you're using Adobe Reader.

Q: Can I view this book on my iPad?

A: The eBook is viewable on the iPad with iBooks; however, we cannot guarantee the functionality of bookmarks and other hyperlinks. We recommend the GoodReader PDF viewer for best results.  You will need to download the book to your computer (Mac or PC) first and then transfer the PDF to your iPad using iTunes.

We have not tested this book on other e-Readers at this time; your reader will need to support PDF file viewing.

Q: Is The Photographer's Guide to HDR Efex Pro available on CD-ROM?

A: Yes. You can order a CD-ROM version of the Guide from Camerabooks.com or from Nik Software USA.

Q: Can I make a printed copy of The Photographer's Guide to HDR Efex Pro?

A: Absolutely. Registered owners are permitted to print a copy for personal use. Refer to the copyright page in the book for more details.

How can I purchase The Photographer's Guide to HDR Efex Pro?

A: Simply go to the Luminesence of Nature Press online store, and you can order the Guide right away!

Q: I've ordered the Guide from your online store. Where is my download code?

A: You should be directed to a download link in your browser immediately after purchasing the Guide.  You will also receive an email with the link to the secure download. For best results, we recommend downloading the eBook file with Firefox, Google Chrome, or Safari.

Q: What is your refund policy?

A: For downloadable products, all sales are final. Once you receive a download code, you own the eBook.  If you have problems with your download, contact me and I'll work with you to resolve any issues.

Q: Are the images in the book available as prints?

A: Yes.  If you are interested in a fine-art print of any of the images in The Photographer's Guide to HDR Efex Pro, please for sizes and pricing.

Q: Do you offer any workshops or videos on HDR Efex Pro?

A: Jason Odell offers a variety of training classes both live and online through Luminescence of Nature Workshops. Tony Sweet offers location workshops throughout the year.

A video workshop by Jason Odell, Mastering HDR Efex Pro, is available as a download (QuickTime) from Luminescence of Nature Press.
