You don’t necessarily need a big DSLR to get a good shot. You just need to use the right gear and be in the right place at the right time. This is a captive flamingo at SeaWorld Orlando. It was right up against a low rope fence, and quite curious.
All I had with me on this particular trip was my Nikon 1 V2 camera. I used the 30-110mm 1-Nikkor lens and held the camera over the fence. The combination of small size and relatively long focal length with VR stabilization allowed me to get a nice sharp shot without the fence in it, even while hand-holding the camera. So in this case, the Nikon 1 V2 really was the right camera for the job; a DSLR would have been awkward and too heavy to use.
